PAST SIMPLE VERB TO BE.

El verbo to be en su forma en pasado tiene dos formas principales: was y were. Aquí te explico cómo usarlas y algunos ejemplos:

1. "Was" (usado con I, he, she, it)

  • I was (yo era / yo estuve)
  • He/She/It was (él/ella/eso era / él/ella/eso estuvo)

Ejemplos:

  • I was tired yesterday. (Estaba cansado/a ayer.)
  • She was at home last night. (Ella estaba en casa anoche.)
  • It was cold in the morning. (Hacía frío en la mañana.)

2. "Were" (usado con you, we, they)

  • You were (tú eras / tú estabas)
  • We were (nosotros/as éramos / estábamos)
  • They were (ellos/as eran / estaban)

Ejemplos:

  • You were happy last week. (Estuviste feliz la semana pasada.)
  • We were at the park yesterday. (Estuvimos en el parque ayer.)
  • They were tired after the trip. (Ellos estaban cansados después del viaje.)

Formas negativas

Para formar la negativa en el pasado, simplemente agregamos not después de was o were:

  • I was not (no era / no estaba) o I wasn't
  • He/She/It was not (no era / no estaba) o wasn't
  • You were not (no eras / no estabas) o weren't
  • We were not (no éramos / no estábamos) o weren't
  • They were not (no eran / no estaban) o weren't

Ejemplos:

  • I wasn't at school yesterday. (No estaba en la escuela ayer.)
  • She wasn't happy. (Ella no estaba feliz.)
  • We weren't tired after the game. (No estábamos cansados después del partido.)

Formas interrogativas

Para formar una pregunta en el pasado, simplemente invertimos el orden del sujeto y el verbo was o were:

  • Was I... (¿estaba yo...?)
  • Was he/she/it... (¿estaba él/ella/eso...?)
  • Were you... (¿estabas tú...?)
  • Were we... (¿estábamos nosotros/as...?)
  • Were they... (¿estaban ellos/as...?)

Ejemplos:

  • Was he at the party? (¿Estaba él en la fiesta?)
  • Were you at home last night? (¿Estuviste en casa anoche?)
  • Were they happy with the result? (¿Estaban ellos felices con el resultado?)
